Green, lush, exotic flora and fauna
are just some of the expressions made by our visitors to our
shores about Trinidad and Tobago’s eco product. Eco
tourism encompasses not only the natural heritage but
includes the local rural communities who are the guardians
of these natural treasures.
Trinidad
and Tobago are blessed with the leatherback turtles,
manatees, ocelot and 433 species of birds of which 200 are
known in Tobago. Butterflies abound and the Tobago Main
Ridge is the oldest forest reserve in the western hemisphere
since 1776 while the Northern Range in Trinidad is said to
be a continuation of one branch of the great South American
cordilleras, rising to over 3,000 feet at mounts El Tucuche
and El Cierro del Aripo. All of this only to add the
great wonders of the marine life in our Tobago waters with
the Manta Rays, reef fishes and one of the largest brain
corals ever found.
Our
community experience includes Matura, Grand Riviere, Toco
and La Brea in Trinidad and Charlotteville, Speyside and
Palatuvier in Tobago. There the genuine warmth and
hospitality of the locals is just at the top of the list of
the natural wonders.
“I see people rise at dawn,
voluntarily to wander the trails in sheer gratitude that the
world is still this beautiful.” Conde Nast
Traveller, March ‘94 |
